STONE MONEY!!!  Isn't it amazing?  Stone money is sometimes still used in more traditional settings, but mostly it is kept at the "stone money banks" in various villages throughout the island.  The money belongs mostly to the village, but people also know which stones are their own.  The value of the stone is not based on how big it is, but how hard the voyage was to get the stone from the Rock Islands in Palau and get it safely back to Yap . . . in a canoe!!  Heck yes!!

My trip to Hawaii was highlighted by getting to visit the Volcano National Park.  Awwwwwwwesome!!  And, much to my delight, the lava gods and goddesses are looking favorably upon me and there was some mighty enjoyable lava flow to witness.  Cristin and I went to the park during the day to see the old lava flow and craters and all that good stuff.  Then we went out again at night to see the lava flow.  It was pretty darn spectacular.

Lavaaaaaaaa!!  Perhaps the highlight of my trip was getting to see the lava flow at night.  It was absolutely awesome!!  Lllllllloved it!  Never mind the fact that I'm a moron and got separated from my friends and my flashlight died on the hike back so I had to buddy-up with some folks, and fortunately the guy had an extra flashlight with him.  It was pitch-black and we were hiking over all this old lava flow.  Treacherous!  Thank goodness for the nice dude with the extra flashlight.
