AIR TESTS

by -=john=-
November, 2002

The following tests were conducted on serial # 289, indoors, in an environment with considerable Electrical Interference.
Unit was set to DISC ON, Threshold 25, Disc 99, Sensitivity 10, Averaging On, Auto Track off, Salt Off, and Foil notched out, no Ground Balance done. Stock 8" Spider coil. 8-7 volts.

This test was conducted to gain some understanding of how the unit will ID certain relics. Obviously they are not buried or in an ideal environment for testing. These readings may be a baseline. Note the Minimum depths were at the point where the detector wouldn't overload (overload signal) or warble. Warbling was noted on certain items passing close to the coil. This sound is 4 beeps instead of one. The Maximum distance was where it still locked on the audio ID tone and the ID numbers were relatively stable.

If you will notice an interesting trend is occurring. Typically the TID numbers go down as distance increases. But on small objects made from relatively pure brass the TID numbers go up as distance increases. This means essentially this unit is tuned for buttons! Also the TIDs went up on the pewter objects tested.
