[1] Crouch-Chestnut Nuptials Take Place Sunday Morning

A wedding uniting two of Todd County's oldest and most prominent families took place Sunday morning, November 24, at eight o'clock, when Miss Bessie Crouch became the bride of Mr. S. W. Chesnut, the impressive marriage ceremony being performed at the home of the officiating minister, the Rev. O.T. Arnett, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in the presence of the bride's sister, Mrs. Percy Shelton and Mr. Shelton.

The bride was becomingly attired in a smart tailored one piece frock of soldier blue, with which she wore a pretty gray wool coat and black accesories.

Mrs. Shelton chose a two piece wool suit of navy, featuring an egg shell satin blouse, with black accessories.

Mrs. Chesnut is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Crouch and before her marriage resided at the Crouch residence on the Allensville pike.

Mr. Chestnut is a prominent South Todd County farmer, residing three miles from Elkton, and has for many years been actively and prominently identified in agricultural circles and all other worthwhile movements for the betterment of his county.

Immediately following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Chesnut left for a short wedding trip and are now receiving the sincere congratulations of a wide circle of interested friends at the bridegroom's home, where they will reside.

[2] Prominent Farmer Dies Sunday

Sam W. Chesnut Funeral Held Tuesday

Services were held Tuesday for Samuel Woodsin(spl ?) Chestnut, 83, prominent Todd County farmer. Mr. Chestnut died late Sunday night at the Jennie Stuart Hospital, Hopkinsville following an illness of four weeks.

Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Elkton Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. O.T. Arnett of Jackson, Tenn., in charge, assisted by the Rev. Victor Watts. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetary with Percy Shelton, James Crouch, Ernest Crouch, Walter Chestnut, David Chestnut and Marian Chestnut serving as pall bearers.

Mr. Chestnut was born on January 20, 1875, in Todd County the son of the late Franklin and Josephine Drake Chestnut. The farm where he was born and lived his entire life had been in the family since 1810. His great grand-father, Alexander Chestnut, moved to this county from Hopewll, S.C. and settled on this farm, which was given to him as a land grant during the Revolutionary War. Mr. Chestnut was an active member of the Elkton Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include, his wife, Mrs. Bessie Crouch Chestnut, three sons, Charles Chestnut and Wilmot Chestnut, both of Elkton, and Walter W. Chestnut, of Hopkinsville.

Elkton - Mrs. Bessie Crouch Chestnut, 89, of Route 4, Elkton, died Saturday in Hopkinsville. Funeral, 4 P.M. Monday, Latham Funeral Home here. Visitation after 9 AM Monday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Britt Crouch Chestnut, 89, a resident of Elkton, were held at Latham Funeral Home at 4:00 Monday afternoon, July 17, 1978. Her pastor, the Rev. John Gunter, officiated at the service. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Chestnut died at Covington Nursing Home, Hopkinsville, Saturday July 15, 1978 following a long illness. She was born September 26, 1888, the daughter of the late James Thomas and Martha Mobley. She was a member of the Elkton Baptist Church and a retired homemaker.

Her husband, Sam W. Chestnut, preceded her in death in 1958. Survivors include two brothers, Ernest Crouch and George Edward Crouch, both of Elkton; three sisters, Miss Gillie Virginia Crouch and Mrs. Percy Shelton, Elkton and Mrs Howard Lebkuecher, Hopkinsville; three stepsons, Walter Chestnut, Pembroke, Charlie Chestnut and Wilmot Chestnut, Elkton and several nieces and nephews.
