Ludwig sailed aboard the Phoenicia from Hamburg, Germany on October 28, 1904 and arrived in NY on November 10. He initially went to stay with his brother, Adolph in either Springfield or Edgewood, IL. His wife, Marie Liebold, and children Marie and Valentine joined him in 1907. Ludwig became Naturalized US citizen in 1913.

1930 Census shows the family living on 17th Street in Decatur, IL. Ludwig, Sr. is working as a millwright for Staley. Valentine is working as a waiter. Ludwig, Mary (Marie), and Valentine were born in Vienna, Austria as were Ludwig's and Marie's parents.

Ludwig RAMBITZ purchased house in 1927 for $1750 with three year mortgage that was renewed for another three years in 1930. In 1943 he purchased lot behind house and built new home. The new house is no longer standing and has been replaced with a detached garage for the original house.

Ludwig worked for the A E Staley Company as a laborer. He died of a cerebral embolism and suffered from carcinoma of the prostrate and senility.

Ludwig's Obituary states he was a resident of Macon Acres Nursing Home for six years before he passed and that he retired from A.E. Staley in 1941 after 23 years. He had been a member of the Staley Fellowship Club and St. James RC Church.


Ludwig married Marie Liebold, daughter of Frank Liebold and Mary Unknown, in Austria.8 (Marie Liebold was born on 2 Jul 1871 in Austria, died on 6 Jun 1940 in Decatur, Illinois and was buried in Calvery Cemetery, Decatur, IL.)
