Orion H. Bell, III
Class of 1954
Louisville Baptist High School operated at Eighteenth Street Baptist Church from fall 1947-spring 1954. Eighteenth Street Baptist Church voted to close the school after that graduation. B. T. Kimbrough, one of the teachers at LBHS, got a new charter under the name Baptist High School for the school year 1954-1955. Both schools were accredited as a Class A high school by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The high quality of the faculty enabled the schools to have this high rating. The new school could not use the name Louisville Baptist High School because that chartered name belonged to Eighteenth Street Baptist Church.
Louisville Baptist High School was operated at Eighteenth Street Baptist Church on Dixie Highway between Hill Street and Bolling Ave. We include students of Baptist High School in our alumni activities because many of them had attended Louisville Baptist High School. Also, a few faculty members from Louisville Baptist High School joined B. T. Kimbrough on the faculty at Baptist High School. Under a different charter it operated at East Baptist Church, East Chestnut Street, one year 1954-1955. Someone who graduated in 1955 could verify the name of the school from their diploma. The mascot of Louisville Baptist High School was the "Mustangs". The mascot of the new school was the "Crusaders."
