Fire Cap Fire Suppression Demonstration (20 images)
On Monday night September 10, 2007, the firefighters of German Township met with
a representative from Fire Cap Fire Suppression, Inc. and tried a new fire
suppression agent. The
agent can be used on all ordinary combustible fires, as well as flammable
liquid fires and flammable metal fires. The training began with a
demonstration using diesel fuel floating on water. The temperature
quickly increased to well over 1000 degrees. Once the agent was applied
with a 2 1/2 gallon pressurized extinguisher with
water and Fire Cap,
the temperature dropped to about 160 degrees and the fire was quickly
extinguished. The next demonstration was a car that was set on fire in
the passenger compartment and allowed to grow until the fire was fully
involved and the temperature was in excess of 1600 degrees. Two
firefighters in full protective clothing and SCBA approached the car and
extinguished the fire with two 2 1/2 gallon water extinguishers with the
agent added. The fire died quickly and the temperature dropped to about
300 degrees in a mater of seconds. After a brief spray on the hood, it
was cool enough to touch with a bare hand. The car was re-lit and
extinguished again with the same rapid results. When we started the
night, we had three 2 1/2 gallon water extinguishers pre-mixed with the
agent. Out of the 7 1/2 gallons of water, we returned to the fire
station with 3 gallons left and were able to extinguish two fully
involved car fires and a flammable liquid fire. Very impressive product.
