Cruising up Leatherwood Creek-click on the pictures

The railroad tunnel on the Leatherwood Branch that got me started thinking about making a trip.

Marg and I headed out early Saturday morning and this is some of the things we saw.

The bridge over Beehive Creek…

…that is the same location of this early 1950s picture of a baptism.  The preacher looks familiar.

The sign from Stoney Fork Baptist Church.  They were having a funeral, so we didn’t stop to take pictures.

This house is right next to the railroad bridge heading towards Stoney Creek and Delphia.  Based on Uncle William’s recollection, this might have been the Adkins home for a while.

Leatherwood pictures are on this page.

Headed over to Harlan County and saw this deer at Kingdom Come State Park.

The Museum sign and the old Jack Taylor house at Highsplint.

Looking up the toward the mines at Highsplint.

Highsplint building.

Another Highsplint building.

I seem to remember Dad saying he was baptized at Redbud Baptist Church up above Evarts towards Kenvir.  This is the sign from their current building.

Kelly Street Baptist Church is where PaPaw went when he left Highsplint.
