ETRC GUN DOG
OF THE YEAR AWARD RULES
- The dog which accumulates
the most points in the ETRC club trials and any AKC Licensed
Hunting Test throughout the year will be the winner of the
annual Holcomb Gun Dog award and trophy. The annual award
and trophy will be presented at the February ETRC annual
awards banquet. The recipient of the Holcomb Gun Dog of the
Year award will keep the trophy for one year and is
responsible for its care. An engraved personal plaque is
awarded to the retriever and the owner.
- Points may be earned only
in ETRC club trials and any AKC Licensed Hunting Test.
- “Puppy” and “Advanced
Junior” events will not be included in computation of Gun
Dog of the Year point totals. However, an annual
Austin-Williams Puppy of the Year award and trophy will be
awarded separately.
- Dogs are eligible to run
in their current AKC classification and higher stakes.
- All hunting stakes and
competitive stakes will be run for completion points only
(one point).
- Once a dog earns an AKC
completion in a higher stake than its current AKC
classification, that dog cannot run a lesser hunting stake
for points. Also, any dog completing two consecutive club
tests in a higher stake than its current AKC classification
cannot run a lesser stake for points. (A dog with an AKC
senior completion cannot run in the Junior stake for points,
but may run in the Master stake. Likewise, a Junior dog that
completes two Senior club tests cannot run for points in the
Junior stake).
- Calculation of Points:
a. A dog will receive
1 point for any AKC Licensed Hunting Test entered.
b. A dog will receive 1 point for any AKC Licensed
Hunting Test completed.
c. A dog will receive 1 point for each club test
entered.
d. A dog will receive 1 point for each club test
completed.
e. BONUS POINTS: A dog will receive *5* bonus points for

f. BONUS POINTS: A dog will receive *5* bonus points for
completing all 5 club tests.
- Only ETRC members may
earn points.
- In the event of a tie,
all dogs receiving the same score will receive recognition.
- A dog which completes a
leg in a higher AKC classification may continue to earn
bonus points by entering all stakes in the classification
they are now eligible to run in. (i.e.,A Junior dog that
runs and completes two club tests in the spring and receives
an AKC Senor completion may finish earning bonus point in
the club Senior stakes in the fall). The same also applies
to a dog that completes two consecutive club tests. (i.e, A
Senior dog that runs and completes two consecutive Master
club tests may finish earning bonus points in the club
Master stakes).
- 2006 Gun Dog of the Year
retrievers will start earning points for any AKC Licensed
Hunting Test and club test beginning January 1, 2006, and
running through February 28, 2007. It will be the
responsibility of each handler/owner to contact the club
designee to report entering and/or completing any AKC
Licensed Hunting Test other than ETRC.
- The rules and regulations
are to be published in the club newsletter preceding and
following the club’s annual February meeting. A copy will be
posted on the ETRC website.

responsible for its care. An engraved personal plaque is
awarded to the puppy and the owner.
- It will be the
responsibility of the owner to provide evidence of ETRC club
and AKC completions to the ETRC club member who is
responsible for tabulating points. Tabulations must be
written on the ETRC point summary form (available on ETRC
website – www.etrclub.org)
The form must be submitted to the ETRC designee by January
15. If in the event there is a discrepancy in the points
submitted and the records provided to the ETRC Secretary
after each club test, the records of the ETRC are final. Any
discrepancies in AKC points submitted will be compared to
AKC’s Performance records with AKC tabulations being final.
- These rules and
regulations along with a copy of the puppy point tabulation
and summary form are to be published in the club newsletter
preceding and following the club’s annual February meeting.
A copy will be posted on the ETRC website. In addition Puppy
Stake judges should be given a copy of these guidelines
prior to judging the stake.
- As some puppies will
compete in both stakes, judges are strongly encouraged to
set up different marking tests for the Junior and Senior
puppy tests. A water mark should be included in the Senior
puppy stake. Lack of suitable grounds and time may prohibit
this suggestion but all efforts should be made to adhere to
it.
