Educational Philosophy
I believe that students should be challenged in school in order to reach their full potential. Teachers should be positive influences in the students’ lives and role models for them. They also need to be facilitators to guide the students through the learning process and have high expectations for all students.
Instruction
should be based on the students’ needs. All learners
need to feel a sense of accomplishment. Hence, teachers should
apply varied teaching strategies
and accommodate the variety of abilities and learning styles of the students.
Also, the learning environment should be student-centered.
Students learn by making their own discoveries
and by problem-solving. For that reason, they need to have many
opportunities to explore and construct their own interpretation and
understanding of concepts. They will learn information better through personal
experiences.
In addition, I believe learning should be fun and teachers should provide a
curriculum that motivates students to learn. Students need to
be involved in activities which are related to their personal interests. They
will be more willing to participate and cooperate if they enjoy school.
Cooperative learning is also essential to student
learning. This teaching strategy should be utilized, because it allows the
students to support each others’ learning as well as increase their own
understanding.
Technology can be an excellent learning tool and is
an important part of our society. Indubitably, students should be introduced to
many different types of technology and have countless opportunities to use
technology in school.
Furthermore, parental involvement in
education enhances student learning. I believe schools and
educators should make an effort to increase the participation of parents in
education. When parents and teachers work together they can be a powerful
team.
Classroom management
is also important. Certainly, the students need structure and
consistency. Therefore,
procedures need to be taught and established to maintain the
classroom. There also needs to be a positive discipline plan
in place. Rules, consequences and rewards should be established and followed
through as part of the plan. The students will
learn responsible citizenship
skills through the
implementation of a positive discipline plan.
Additionally, I believe teachers need to create a positive
classroom climate. Teachers should be caring and compassionate
and acknowledge their students’ feelings. Students need to feel comfortable and
confident in their classroom environment to express their views and ideas
freely.
All in all, the teacher’s mission is to lead the students on the pathway to
success.
