Inner Sword: Poetry and
Prose by James A. Gardner
Lensometer
My father went to work for American Optical
in 1946 after serving in the Pacific theater. In 1970, he
& my four oldest brothers founded Progressive Optical
which was the Ohio Valley's largest wholesale optical lab
for twenty years. I worked around there throughout my
high school & college days, and at one time or
another was also its janitor. Between 1986 and
1989, I was a finish man; tinted or beveled
thousands of lenses; laid out many more with its Lensometer, paying my
own tuition for college.
