First Generation:
James Wells married Malinda Owens, May 5, 1832 in Jackson County, Indiana James Wells was born in Kentucky approx. 1802,died in Cass County, Illinois March, 1851. Malinda Owens was born in Indiana. James & Malinda Wells married in Jackson County and started their family in Clark County, Indiana. Their children being in birth order David, James Harvey, John Riley, Rebecca, and Levi.
The 1860 Federal Census shows the family of James Wells living in Cass County, Illinois. The wife of James is shown as Ann Wells. It is a strong possibly that Ann was the middle name of Malinda.
NOTE: Certificate of Marriage issued in Jackson County, Indiana on the 1st. of May, 1832 and executed the 5th. of May, 1832 shows James Wells married to "MALINDA" Owens not "BALINDA" Owens as reported in the Sangamon County Archives.

Married Jesse Gray March 13, 1851, next James Willis Hinds (known as Willis) Jan. 04, 1855, next Samuel A. Hinds (Brother to James W.) Sept. 02, 1879, next Charles Holden April 17, 1882. The children of James Willis and Rebecca (Wells) Hinds were - Edward Jackson (d) 03/04/1931; Charles Tinnie (d) 04/05/1944; Sara; John; Melinda; Luella; Alice; Samual Alexander (d) 01/03/1934.
John R.(Riley) Wells (Born to James Wells and Malinda (Owens) Wells in Clark County, Ind. 06/24/1837 (d) 12/03/1911) Married Amy C. Batterton (b) 02/19/1838, daughter of William & Eliza (Gaines) Batterton of Salisbury Township, Sangamon County, Illinois on April 04, 1859. Thanks to the hand written memories of Beulah Wells, this connection can be verified and Johns family can be traced from Salisbury Township to Macon County, Missouri. David Wells (Born to James Wells and Malinda (Owens) Wells in Clark County, Ind. 1832 approx. (d) 1903 ) married Ruana (Ames) Tungate, Aug. 08, 1850 in Cass County, Illinois. The children of David and Ruana (Tungate) Wells were - John R. Wells, Willard F. Wells (b)1864, and Mary Wells.
Levi Wells (Born to James Wells and Malinda (Owens) Wells in Clark County, Ind. 1837 approx. (d) 09/26/1894 [?]. It is possible that Levi and John were twins but not verified. )

(Kern) Wells born September, 1856, died June 06, 1918. Levi Marion Wells and Rose
Barbara (Kern) Wells had twelve children. Those children were
John Harvey; Richard; Leafen; Ada; Elmer; Floy; Charles; Lelia; Leonard;
Gladys. Siblings of Rose Barbara Kern were George, John, Katie, Mary, and William.
George marries Levi's sister Mary.

Sangamon County, IL. Richard R. and Cora (Campbell) Wells had 3 children,
Earl E. [B] Nov. 20, 1892 [D] April 10, 1911, a son, Oliver whom died in
infancy, and Beulah Belle [B] Oct. 25, 1896.
