SPECIAL NOTE: The 1880 Federal Census for Sangamon County, IL. indicates Charles Moyer and
both parents being born in Germany.

MAHALA JANE (CRUZAN) MOYER born May 17, 1841 in Cincinati, Ohio died March 12, 1922 in Fisher, Illinois at the home of her daughter Mrs. George McKenzie at the age of 80yr, 9m, 28d. Mahala Moyer was buried in Williamsville, Illinois March 15, 1922 at the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Mahala was the daughter of Elias and Sally (Prater) Cruzan.

NOTE: Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763 - 1900 shows the following:
MOYER, CHARLES married CRUZAN, MAHALA JANE 08/15/1861, Sangamon County, IL
MOYER, WILLIAM H. married JONES, ELLA H. 02/13/1889, Sangamon County, IL
Marriage Certificate shows William of Gardner Township was 26 years of age and Ella was 20 years of age
at the time of their marriage. Ella Jones was born in New York the daughter of Wm. & Randell (sp) Jones of
Springfield, Illinois. Witness were Edward Moyer and A.G. Jones. William and Ella were married in Springfield, Illinois.

History of Charles E. Moyer, son of Charles and Mahala (Cruzan) Moyer.

Mary Ellen (Merry) Spies out in the Portland, Oregon area. Mary Ellen is the grandaughter of James & Ella (Moyer) Merry; gr-grandaughter to Charles & Mahala (Cruzan) Moyer; and the
gr-gr-grandaughter to "Unknown" Moyer.

MOYER, ELLA - Daughter to Charles and Mahala (Cruzan) Moyer. Born February 28, 1878, in Sangamon County, Illinois. Ella marries W. Bruce Piper in Cass Co., Illinois, March 04, 1897. W. Bruce & Ella have a son Bruce Piper born March 23, 1898. W. Bruce Piper died sometime before 1900. Illinois Census for 1900 shows Ella and son Bruce living with Ella's mother Mahala in Williamsville Village, Illinois. Ella next marries James Madison Merry in 1901. Their children were Alta born 1902; Owen born 1904; Fred born 1907; Ruby born 1910, John born 1913. James M. Merry husband of Ella dies 1923 in New London, Missouri. New Jersey Census for 1930 shows Ella and her children living in Newark, N.J. Ella (Moyer) Merry dies April 15, 1970 in Beliot, Wisconsin.
Carol Jane (McKenzie) McInnis out in New Jersey. Carol Jane is the daughter of Frank and Berniece (Conroy) McKenzie, grandaughter of George and Ella (Moyer) McKenzie, gr-grandaughter of Charles and Mahala (Cruzan) Moyer, and the gr-gr-grandaughter to "Unknown" Moyer.

CRUZAN, ELIAS - Elias married Sally Prater 26 Aug, 1830 in Union Co, IN., Elias and Sally Cruzan had two children; Mahala [b] 1841 and William [b] 1842. Elias Cruzan's wife Sally dies and Elias remaries Elizabeth Rhea [b] 1825 on 12/31/1848 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Elias and Elizabeth had six children; Garrett [b] 1849, David Logan, Lavina, Margaret, R.J., and E. Cruzan. Mr. Cruzan moved his family to Sangamon County, Illinois sometime in the mid to late 1840's.
