Quote:  “The greatest power is resolve.”

Ultra had a tortured existence when Megatron was in charge of Cybertron.  He was second only to Leader-One in single minicon power, a fact which Megatron taunted him with constantly.  In the beginning of Ultra’s slavery, he did not care about who was more powerful, or what his status was.  But this constant chiding eventually gnawed at him.  The only way to silence it was results, and results for Megatron, he often found, were distasteful.  It was after this long degradation that Ultra began to crave power, not for self-gain, but self-protection.  He began to grow a jealously of Leader-One, and his mostly safe status.  After all, why would Megatron permanently damage his number one weapon?  Ultra was often not so lucky.  For Leader-One’s part, he looked on with dismay at the treatment Ultra endured.

Ultra eventually escaped to deep space, but was ever leery of those larger than him.  Ultra lived a peaceful life as a nomad for many vorns, and avoided most contact with any mechanoids.  He preferred the company of organics.  They were usually softer than he was, as well as similar in size, so he did not fear them, nor did they know what he was.  The power port that Megatron himself had carved into him seemed nothing more than ornamentation to passersby.

Ultra existed traveling from solar system to solar system, and star to star until he came across one that had had a relatively recent cataclysm.  Its star had gone super nova some time back.  He thought he should harvest some energy before flying his old pilfered space cruiser to the next system.  The dim white dwarf star winked at him as he began searching the system for possible sources of energy.  There were two planets that had previously bore life.  One was completely scraped clean, while the other planet farther away from the star was only half disfigured the “better” half must have been facing away…. Not enough to save the previous inhabitants, but enough to tell misshapen structures, and the warped architecture of dead life.  Ultra scanned for energy then landed, at a dull echo on his power meter.  It was a small reserve, but where there was a little energy, there might be more that could be exposed.  Then he saw it…  a symbol he hadn’t seen for millennia.  It was attached to a half melted robot looming over him, partially, and misshapenly welded to a leaning structure.  The Autobot’s eyes were hollow.  Rather than run in fear, Ultra looked on it with awe.  He dispatched his ship, and cut the large robot loose.  A plan began to form in his head.  Even though, the Autobot was clearly dormant, Ultra was against killing him outright.  He couldn’t justify it.  There had been a thought he previously entertained that seemed nothing more than a steam-pipe dream.  He then set to computing a proper shell program, as well as the modifications that would be necessary to himself, and to this one that he recognized as the Autobot Magnus.  Ultra had kept up with the technology that would allow him to accomplish his tasks.  It was only smart from a defensive standpoint.

The work was slow and tedious at first, but the farther along Ultra got in his labor, the more confidence sprang forth.  Gone was his minicon port… his mark of slavery.  He looked on his new form, and wondered if all that he had set into motion would work.  He saw to the repairs, and refit of Magnus, and himself.  He slowly brought Magnus online, and as Magnus’ awareness came to full bare.  Ultra stated, “This is a partnership, you have no choice in it, but neither are you a slave.  We will work together, and I will be your equal.”  Magnus still dazed didn’t quite know what he meant, but it became apparent a short time later.

Ultra transforms into the headmaster of Magnus when in duo-bot form.  Rather than completely taking over Magnus’ body, he allowed Magnus an autonomous single form to prove to Magnus, (and himself) that he was not completely forcing his will on Magnus.  But Ultra was indeed craving Magnus’ power, and so is now bianarily bonded to Magnus.
