“I just want to go home.”
Hightower seems to be the most straightforward of the new Constructicons. The truth is far from it. Really far. Hightower is, in fact, an extra-dimensional Autobot from another universe. Due to distortions plaguing his home universe, that universe’s version of Optimus Prime felt it necessary to send several teams of Autobots into what Prime believed to be the “mother universe” in the hopes of finding a cause. Prime had confided in the groups he sent that he sensed their universe was on the verge of imploding. This fact still alarms Hightower, and does not make his current predicament any easier.
It was upon sending Hightower’s group cross-dimensionally that their image was warped and distorted upon entry. A large black hole produced a gravitational lensing affect that miniaturized him much in the same way that looking through a telescope at the wrong end does. It also bounced his entry beam very far from where he was supposed to go. He has no idea where or when he now is, nor does he know where the rest of his team is.
Hightower’s miniaturization was not apparent to him at first. It only became apparent when he found himself among a population of Decepticons that called themselves Micromasters. He quickly changed his Autobot symbol to that of the Decepticons (Optimus Prime had given them permission to do what they had to do to maintain cover. There was much about the “mother universe” that was not known.). He was then summarily attacked by six larger than life construction Decepticons that, much to Hightower’s shock, formed an even larger robot. He felt like a retro-rat at the time (scurrying to and fro). Then the entire green monstrosity fell apart due to lack of energon. He stood on top of one of the large green robots when the rest of the smaller Decepticons (his size) arrived. They congratulated him, and Hightower thought he could then slip into obscurity to get his bearings.
It was two cycles later that he was “volunteered” to be part of a new combiner with some of the very robots that attacked him earlier. Apparently, 3 of the six large Decepticons had been deactivated accidentally, and the Decepticon leadership needed replacements. So, not only has Hightower been shrunk, displaced from his own dimension, and forced to become a Decepticon. He also finds himself re-engineered into a mighty (small) Decepticon combiner. He wants to go home, but can find no way out. He also feels that he cannot abandon his mission, and so continues his act.
Due to the atmosphere of distrust between the Micromaster Constructicons, Hightower finds it easy to keep his identity concealed. Little does he know, that Quickmix is also an Autobot, but of this universe on his own covert mission.
