BAND HISTORY

The history of the band starts with Buzz, the founding, & oldest member of THE DESPERATE HOUSEFLIES. Shortly after receiving his masters in anthropology from North Western University, Buzz married his college sweetheart Beverly, & moved into a small apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, his home town. Less than 2 months later, after a concert at The Phoenix Hill Tavern, Beverly ran off with a roadie for the Marshall Tucker Band. Trying to win her back, & after taking piano lessons for almost 2 weeks, Buzz joined his 1st working band, Terry & the Turds.

The "T" Turds, as their most ardent fans called them, were based in Bardstown Ky, & gained prominence playing clubs & festivals in Kentucky & Tennessee. Founded by one time local Elvis impersonator Terry Turdinski, they concentrated mostly on covers of classic rock & pop from artists like Elvis, Nirvana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KC & the Sunshine Band, Hootie & the Blowfish, The Archies, Cher, etc. They were a regular in the last days of the old Golden Horseshoe in Lebanon Ky, most of the time as the opening act for The Fanatics.

The "T" Turds 1st (& only) record, however, was not rock or pop; it's was country. The recording of Let Your Knees Do the Crawlin' (If your coming back to me) never made the charts, but attracted the attention of Nashville record producer Harry Hovermeyer, who quickly signed them to a contract. His first demand; name change for the group. He convinced the members that no radio station would ever play a song from a group named Terry & the Turds. The band needed to adopt a classer, more "radio friendly" name. This was hard for the members, especially Terry, to do after all the local & regional success they had as a cover band. So after many meetings, brain storming secessions, & on the recommendation of a major New York consulting firm, Terry & the Turds faded into history, & in it's place the classer, more "radio friendly" Terrance & the Turds was born.

The enthusiasm & energy brought about by the recording contract & name change was unfortunately short lived. Just a few weeks later Terry suffered a setback when he lost his job at the Krispy Kreme after a "filling incident", & was forced to take a 2nd shift cashiers position at the newly opened Wal-Mart. This effectively ended his musical career. Buzz quickly jumped in & took control, touring with the band under the shortened name The Turds, but the magic was gone. In the end, Terrance & the Turds turned out to be just another small business destroyed by Wal-Mart.

Buzz took the breakup of the band hard, but decided to take advantage of the down time by looking for his estranged wife Beverly, who by that time was dating Snoop Dog. He felt he had proven himself as a musician & could win her back. When he finally found her she refused to go home, but Snoop graciously offered to used his influence to help Buzz get a contract with Sony Records. Buzz was very grateful for the superstar help, & for the next 2 years he did Sony Record's landscaping & lawn work.

After his contract ended, Buzz came back to his hometown. He made one last effort to get Beverly to come home with him, but just like with The Turds, the magic was gone. Beverly was no longer dating Snoop Dog, & now had a high level position in the Clinton administration. Buzz knew it was over & finally let go, but to his credit, still supported her after she was indicted.

After just a few months at home, together with original Terry & the Turds member Grease Ball Johnny, Buzz formed THE DESPERATE HOUSEFLIES; a band dedicated to doing only original music; not selling out to The Man. With current members The Viking, Goose, & Tricky 66, the band looks forward to the completion of it's 1st CD "BUZZ OFF." THE DESPERATE HOUSEFLIES are also proud of the fact that they are a TRUE underground band, mainly because they all still live in their parents basements.
