Is It God's Job To Do Everything For You?
By Rev. Dr. Daryl C. Greene

Try not. Do. Or, do not. There is no try.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980

Easter reminds us that "With God, all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26). It helps us to understand that God is able to bring good out of evil, healing out of suffering, and life out of death. But does the Easter message mean that God is responsible for taking care of all our needs and problems? What about our health problems?

Again I ask you, "How are you?" How many times have you been asked that question? What would your honest answer be? Maybe you are like me. Do you have a health problem for which the doctors have told you that there is nothing more that they can do for you? Perhaps, you are like me and have prayed for a healing miracle and it hasn't come. Are you still waiting, passively? Is it God's job to do everything for you?

Let me assure you that there are many things that you can do to help yourself feel better, suffer less, and have more energy. In my book and in my seminars I talk about four drug free things I have found which help me to feel better. They are fulfilling your Mission, exercising your Muscles, receiving Massage therapy, and practicing the art of healing Meditation. None of these things is a quick fix. But scientific studies have shown that if you take the initiative and keep the discipline to follow these prescriptions, you will feel better.

Wisdom discerns that the doctor is not primarily responsible for how well you feel. Neither is God primarily responsible. You are responsible for putting your own best foot forward. Therefore, when it comes to your health and healing, walking in faith is not something you can do sitting down!

If the doctors have told you that there is nothing more that they can do. why conform to the doctor's diagnosis and simply melt away? Why not adopt a fighting spirit in your quest for healing? Make up your mind that you will do everything you can do to help yourself feel better. "Do. Or do not. There is no try." Turn toward your higher power for help along the way. Then the power of God will be revealed to you.
