Issues logging onto Steam

Do you ever get any of the following errors while trying to log on to Steam?

 1)  Steam authentication error ("Invalid User ID Ticket")

 2)  Steam.exe (main exception): Failed to create key TopKey\SteamServerAdressCache Details: CMultiFieldBlob(pSerialized): Partial field header at end of record "

Here is the fix.  Go to your steam folder and delete the clientregistry.blob file. Restart steam and let it re-update itself. I find this to be the cure to most of my steam problems.

If your having problems getting your cs password to work while trying to get into a password protected map do the following:

Open your config.cfg file and delete the following lines. (the numbers in your file may be different)

setinfo "s" "67108863"
setinfo "s2" "67108863"
setinfo "s3" "67108863"

Do you use Windows XP..... Have you ever had your mouse spin out of control while paying counter strike?

XP Mouse Fix

The following is how to disable mouse accel in Counter-Strike and/or your desktop.

/   ( the  "-full" makes your game play with a full screen..... totally full!)

1. Right click on your CS shortcut (if you dont have a shorcut for 1.6 do this: open Steam -> click on Games -> right click on Counter-Strike -> select Create desktop shortcut)
2. Go to properties
3. Under the Target line it should say the following if you have:

Steam 1.6:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10

Retail CS:

C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console

Mod CS:

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstrike

4. Add the following: -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -full
Should look like this if you have:

Steam 1.6:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10 -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -full

Retail CS:

C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -full

Mod CS:

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstrike -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -full

Issues with getting frames per seconds above 60 hz while running Windows XP???

Well I fixed my 60hz issue in counter strike with this file. Wow!!! that card really rocks now in cs.....I wasn't to impressed until I got the refresh rate up!

One other thing on networking....With Windows XP they try and force you to set-up your xp box as a gateway to provide internet service to all your other computers because xp has such tight security....Warning..dont set up your network as a gateway, it will make your game play jittery. Every time one of the other computers on the network transfer data, it impacts your bandwidth while gaming.

Don

This is what I used for my Radeon 9700

Use this for nVidia ...I haven't used it

Sticking keys on your keyboard getting you down?

If you play as much as I, I’m sure you’ve had this issue.  Here is how I solve it.  I use silicon spray.  Make sure you shake it up good.  Pop the key out with a small screw driver and  spray silicon on the underneath side of the key and then squirt it with dry powered graphite.  You can get the graphite dust at any place they sell the boy scouts pine wood derby supplies.  Lowe’s and Menards also carries it.  A lot of places that sell keys and locks also carry it. At first the key may feel a little gritty but the graphite powder will quickly breakdown giving you a smooth key action.

Keep getting booted from counter strike while behind a linksys router???

If so make a shortcut to counter strike on your desktop and add this to the shortcut (+clientport 27016) it should look like this...

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 10 +clientport 27016

Smoothing your your video on ATI cards

I run at a fixed 85fps (vertical sync on) at a resolution of 1200X1600. I get occasional tearing of the screen with vertical sync off.

If anyone with ati card has a problem with the framerates dropping….

1. Open your config.cfg etc. with notepad (found in half-life\cstrike folder)

2. There's these lines called:
ati_npatch and
ati_subdiv

and a number next to them. Change that number to 0 so these lines should look like this:
ati_npatch 0
ati_subdiv 0

Ati_npatch = sets Trueform on/off, 1=on 0=off
Ati_subdiv = sets Trueform level, accepting values 0-7 (this is in case someone wants to keep Trueform on but with lesser effect)

TrueForm is new technology developed by ATI, overcomes traditional memory and bandwidth problems to deliver the smoothest and most realistic images ever seen on a PC. So to speak it resolves the buggyness when playing a game.Sau ai intrebat "ce inseamna Trueform in CounterStrike"?Many people have been complaining of the funny barrel shaped effects commonly associated with custom weapon models which is caused by ATI's Trueform technology. Sierra's default setting is to have Trueform enabled but by simply entering the command "ati_npatch 0" (without quotes) into the console it can be deactivated.

If you do not want to completely deactivate it setting "ati_subdiv cvar" in the console (without quotes) to a higher setting (0-7) will reduce the effect that Trueform has on the models

The other thing I do is enable “Triple Buffering” It is located in the ATI display settings on the bottom of the opengl tab. Click on the button called “Compatibility”
Set this option to Enabled to improve overall performance when VSync is enabled. Using Triple Buffering may cause problems for graphics cards with lower Video RAM, so disable this option if you’re experiencing problems such as mouse lag.
Enabling triple-buffering with vsync stops the huge frame-rate cuts that you get with double-buffering (i.e. refresh rate 85 FPS will drop to 43 if it cannot maintain 85). This is really annoying and makes for stuttery game-play. Tripple buffering will fix it. My fps is stable at 85. The only thing that slows it down (to 42) is when I am sitting in the middle of a smoke nade.
