Plein Aire Painters of the Bluegrass is a group of painters from Central Kentucky, working in various media, who enjoy painting on-site and with each other. Membership is open to any artist who actively sells their work and pursues professional development.

What To Bring

 

o         Pochade Box or easel

o         Painting media

o         Supports

o         Folding Chair

o         Umbrella to shade canvas/palette

o         Water Bottle

o         Snacks

o         Hiking Boots

o         Film or Digital camera (light weight as possible)

o         Sunglasses

o         Small sketch book

o         Holder/box to carry finished paintings

o         Reading/painting glasses

o         Wide-brimmed or baseball hat

o         Huggies Baby wipes-light-weight and makes cleaning your hands so easy.

o         Paper towels

o         Bug spray (spray before leaving your car and leave the bug spray in the trunk)

o         Sun block (again, put in on and leave the bottle in your trunk)
lightweight stool that's doubles as a carrying bag. (they're advertised in art magazines and catalogs)

o         Poncho (leave in your car if the weather report is perfectly sunny)

o         Pastel painters

1.       Masking tape

2.       Utility knife with retractable blade (I use it to sharpen pastel pencils and for safety/protection)

3.       Pastels

4.       Pastel paper

5.       Small drawing board that fits in stool carrying bag

6.       Wax paper to protect finished drawings

 

Trip Planning

 

o         Car pool whenever possible to minimize the impact on painting sites.

o         When painting, stay within earshot or carry cell phones to be able to contact everyone, especially if you will leave earlier or later than others.

o       If you will be out of sign of your car, place a sign on the dashboard which plainly says “Artist at Work”.
