CORUSCANT CUSTOMS

Figure and Diorama by:

SoME_6.1.jpg (32147 bytes) Welcome back to the Streets of Mos Espa! This update is pretty exciting because you can finally start to see the master plan come together. Recently I had time to create the show-table that will hold the entire piece when finished. The table itself measures in at an awesome 48" x 72" and stands 3.5’ from the floor. It is a huge surface and I have plans to fill it up. What you are looking at here are custom figures and structures you have seen in the previous updates finding their placement on the new table. I really love the way the front is coming together. The actual wood surface of the table will eventually become the streets that wind through the city. Once I have all structures in place I will trace around all buildings/structures, remove them from the table and lay down a sand/mini rock base to the surface, just as seen in the Tusken Camp. This technique will allow me to only sand the areas needed so that the individual structures will set nice and even on the wood.
SoME_6.2.JPG (35686 bytes) As the street scene grows new blood is needed so here are my newest creations. The 2nd member of Gloom Star is a Nikto (background story undecided). I have current plans for three renegade swoops (two down, one to go). This swoop was made from various parts from the EU SOTE Swoop and the EU Rebel Speeder Bike with other miscellaneous scrap pieces. Behind the Nikto biker you see three pilots who are visiting Mos Espa. They will be congregating around the upcoming space port. Up front are two cool aliens that were incredibly easy to customize. The Ithorian is a Cantina packed Nadon which was repainted green and the Rodian is a Greedo wearing a Ponda Boba vest. The figure to the left is a Dewback herder. I promise to show you a better picture of this figure later.

This is a shot of my next super structure. The building face plate was showcased in one of the earliest SoME updates, but now you see how it will connect to the entire piece. On the front you will see Wald's homestead and on the side you see the work in progress of my Dewback trading area. My herder figure herds these Dewbacks, as well as other animals from the harsh climate, and brings them to town a few at a time to sell these beasts on the Mos Espa streets. They are usually sold as beasts of burden to whoever is willing to pay the right price.

SoME_6.4.JPG (32945 bytes) Here is the other side of the mega structure. This piece fits quite snug to the other super structure previously shown and upon completion will have a balcony deck and a fenced in back yard filled as a junk yard. The far back portion will be home to the next series of street vendors, as you will see in the next photo. I know that this picture is not all that exciting however I enjoy showing you some of the works in progress so you can see the total transformation from the conceptual start all the way through until the end. Next time we see this piece it will be totally complete and I have a few tricks up my sleeve where it is concerned. Oh boy, I can’t wait to get it finished and show you!
SoME_6.5.JPG (32898 bytes) The last photo of this update shows you how the entire piece is coming together from a side perspective. Where you see the huddle of figures is where the vendor's market is to continue. The Ithorian flower shop, the "Bespin Imports" weapons emporium and the Jawa/droid trading area will all exist here. Everything is in the works to make this piece complete. There is still much more to be done, so I'm sure there will be several more updates where this piece is concerned. Up next, I am designing the next three major structures: the local cantina, a space craft docking bay and a parking lot area for some pretty cool custom vehicles I am putting together. So check back with us often so you can say that you watched an entire city grow. Cya soon.
