While you’re vacationing, Insight and CIC is still working for YOU! In our ongoing effort to help our area teachers, Insight wants to keep you informed of the many wonderful programs that are airing this summer. Take advantage of the FREE educational programs that will enhance your curriculum and tape them for use in the upcoming school year!
The
June Access Learning
has a fabulous article for your parents and Insight would invite
you to add this PDF link to your school website as a way for parents to use
media to help students be active learners all summer long – or during the
school year as well.
The article reminds parents that a summer media list in addition to a summer reading list can expose children to new information, new viewpoints, and new interests. A quality media list would include excellent educational TV programming such as our Cable in the Classroom material, quality web sites, games and CDs that help keep students thinking and growing while out of school. The article also helps parents with activities they can use to accompany these media ideas to make them more meaningful.
Active Media Questions is a section in the article, which gives parents specific ideas to use with the programming their children are viewing. The list of questions and suggestions in this section will increase positives derived from viewing this quality material.
Access
Learning, published by Cable In The Classroom, is mailed
FREE-OF-CHARGE to your school library courtesy of Insight. This resource
provides you with the schedules of the programs offered per month. They
organize them by subject for easy reference for YOU. They have an
at-a-glance monthly calendar highlighting the programming. Also included
are the web addresses for each of the cable networks and how to obtain their
support materials online!
Don’t have time to read Access Learning this month? View the program highlights online! http://ciconline.org/AboutCIC/Publications/accesslearning.htm
We suggest that every month you take a look at what’s available and record any programs that you may use right away or during the school year so you don’t miss any of the great programming.
Here’s a tip…a great way to get your parents involved in their child’s education is to ask them to help record your favorite CIC programs. Kay Zoretic is available to teach a “parent taping team” how to use their VCR’s and how to organize the videotapes for your use. Contact Kay for more information.

And the winners are . . .
Warren East Middle School faculty had the most responses to our last newsletter and will be receiving “teacher treats” sometime during the first month of school this fall. A big thank you to Deborah Roddy for passing the info on to WEMS teachers.
The individual teacher also happens to be from WEMS, and we will keep that name secret until the day of the treat!
Register for This Issue’s Teacher Appreciation gift!
Send email to Kay at kzoretic@insightbb.com and give me feedback regarding this newsletter or Insight’s educational involvement - we’re looking for suggestions that will help us to improve the program for YOU! This issue’s drawing will reward several teachers with our “double cup” CIC porcelain mug. Prizes will be awarded after school begins this fall. Be sure to add the feedback and your school’s name in the body of the email!

Did Your School Take Advantage of Insight Project USA?
Leadership Teams from participating schools created and implemented many wonderful activities to benefit their respective schools and/or our community. After creating these activities, the students took their leadership to the next level by motivating the student body to participate in the volunteerism activities they created.
Through Insight Project USA, over 1000 books were collected to encourage reading and improve literacy at one school, tens of thousands of aluminum cans were collected for recycling and fund raising, programs to teach students to resolve conflict were established at two schools, one team made a presentation to their superintendent illustrating their plan for an outdoor retreat, several schools combined to collect staple food items to fill hundreds of food boxes for families in crisis, over $5,000 were collected by just a few schools for the Family Enrichment Center Buckets of Hope Campaign, programs were created to recognize both veterans and current military personal, and care bags were made and filled by one school to present to elderly and pediatric hospital patients and to residents of the Salvation Army by another school. These are only a few of the many volunteerism activities that were created by the Insight Leadership Teams and carried out by their respective student bodies. Leadership Teams do make a difference!
Insight realizes that all our schools encourage students to participate in volunteer activities and all of them address the needs of students with leadership potential. Insight Project USA combines both the leadership and volunteerism elements into one program and gives your students an opportunity to win money and be recognized for their successes. Terry Cook, principal of Bristow Elementary had positive comments about the program. Insight Project USA puts the kids in the position of decision making and allows them to be a stake holder in decisions made for the entire student body. We were thrilled to participate and to win second place! Terry Cook, Principal, Bristow Elementary.
If your school did not participate this year, we missed your students and we encourage you to join with us next year. Please give my phone and/or email address to the person who would be in charge and ask them to contact me at 796-8204 or kzoretic@insightbb.com. I will be sure to contact them early next year so your school will not miss this valuable opportunity.

Important
Hint for Using Cable in the Classroom!
Q… Oh, I forgot to tape the A&E program that was on this morning!
Is there anything I can do?
A… If the program you need is on A&E or the History Channel, don’t despair. Many of the programs from these two networks are repeated occasionally so you will often have another opportunity to capture it on tape. Review their program calendars routinely to see if it’s rescheduled or contact them off their website
Remember – bookmark Insight’s CIC website to check our newsletter periodically.
This site is a valuable resource to locate participating CIC channel numbers, view the current newsletter and look at past newsletters!
