Text Box: Working Hard to Help You!
This issue of In the Know is dedicated to inform you about some of the new and exciting ways to make technology work for YOU in the classroom!

Is your school doing curriculum mapping and have you expanded those maps to include vertical planning?  Cable in the Classroom can help you plan ahead by acquiring educational video material along with lesson plans and curriculum guides provided by many of the networks through Insight and the internet.   I will be glad to show your vertical planning team how to locate and insert the resources from CIC.  It’s an easy process and it will become a valuable tool for YOU!

If you’re looking for a way to involve parents, how about starting a Parent Taping Team to record Cable in the Classroom programming in their own home!  I will be happy to come out to your school and explain the program to the staff and parents interested.  I will train the parents to set up the program and to do the recording.  It’s that easy and can provide your school with thousands of dollars of valuable, educational materials for only the cost of a videotape!

Would you like to locate internet links that have activities that will fit into your curriculum and help you set up some independent internet activities for your students?    Go to CIC’s website- http://ciconline.org/Enrichment/EnrichmentLinks/default.htm. -and you can locate many resources in a number of different disciplines.

Elementary teachers, would you like to have a fun and safe way to write to pen pals with classes in another part of the country and have a culminating activity at the end of the year?   Plan a Project Cam event with the two other classes.  Learn more about CIC’s Project Cam at   http://ciconline.org/ProjectCam/default.htm.

Find out about CLIC - http://ciconline.org/CLIC/default.htm - CIC’s online collaborative capability for educators.  See the explanation of CLIC and download the PDF file to see a tour of CLIC and see how it works.

Text Box: Holy Trinity Students Visit Insight

Students from Suzanne Talley’s Holy Trinity first grade class recently toured our cable office.  While there, students had a opportunity to learn about the different kinds of training required to work in the different positions at Insight.  Students had an opportunity to see customer service representatives in action, watch a pole climbing exhibition and see how the technicians in the production department produce a television program.

While visiting with the techs and installers, Bradley Wierson had an opportunity to wear the tool belt.  He was amazed at the weight of the tools the construction workers need when they are working on the lines.  Students also learned about safety on the job – thus the hard hat!

If your classroom curriculum would be enhanced by a tour of our facility, you may call Sheryl Morris, Production Supervisor at (270) 793-0902, (270) 782-8355 (fax)or email at morris.s@insight-com.com.
