Perkins earns EPA accolades for environmental initiatives

Commitment to improved fleet fuel efficiency garners spot in
SmartWay Transport Partnership

    NOBLESVILLE, Ind., May 22, 2008—The Environmental Protection Agency has certified Perkins Specialized Transportation, Inc., a fast-growing leader in specialized transportation services for the office furniture, store fixture, home cabinet and tradeshow exhibit industries, as a SmartWay Transport Partner for its plan to increase fuel efficiency across its fleet over the next three years.

    As defined on the EPA Web site, SmartWay Transport Partners are commercial, industrial and public sector organizations that commit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution and to improve fuel efficiency of ground freight transportation. As such, the EPA bestows SmartWay partners with benefits and services for being a part of the program, including:

•Fleet management tools

•Technical support

•Public recognition

•Information

    To earn SmartWays certification, Perkins submitted proposed fuel-efficiency standards for its fleet for the next three years, which was assessed a SmartWay and corresponding Shipper Index Factor score. The EPA approved both; the next step for Perkins is to submit an action plan for 2009 detailing its commitment to increasing fuel efficiency among its fleet over the next 18 months.
