14. Was there a universal apostasy by the
early Christian Church?
The Mormon Church claims that the original teachings of Christ
and the apostles reflected a Mormon worldview. However, the early church soon
apostatized and was only restored through Joseph Smith 1800 years later.
The Mormon Church never has (and never will ) establish 1) that the universal
apostasy occurred or 2) that the original gospel was Mormon. It can be
historically demonstrated there was no universal apostasy, and it can be proven
to anyone's satisfaction that the beliefs of Jesus and the apostles as recorded
in the New Testament have not been corrupted. The Mormon claim to being a
restored church is demonstrably false. With out an apostasy, nothing existed to
be restored. (Matthew 16:18; 24:35; Ephesians 3:21; Hebrews 12:28; Romans 9:29;
11:4,5).
