2006 Williamsburg Church Softball League

The 2006 Williamsburg Church Softball League tourney was played on Saturday July 22, 2006.  The diamond received
a lot of rain over night, but thanks to the efforts of Bob Bowman and Tim Frame from Williamsburg, and Adam Vance
and Ben Nicholson from Sylvan Nook, the games started as scheduled at 8 am.   I also appreciated the players from
Centerville Christian who help me rake the field before several of the games and Jack Miles from Williamsburg for all
your help with the field.

The 5 first round games were all decided by run rule.  The games in round 2, the semi-finals, and the finals were all
close, exciting, 7 inning contests which featured clutch hitting and many outstanding defensive plays.   None of the 11 games
were decided by the time limit that was established for the tourney.

Congratulations to Centerville Christian, the 2006 tourney and overall champions, Williamsburg Teen, the 2006 tourney
runner-up, New Life Holiness, the 2006 regular-season champions and overall runner-up, and Sylvan Nook, third place
in both the regular season and tourney.

Breaking News:  July 15, 2006: 11:35 pm

I have just learned that the agreement that I thought was in place to use a second diamond in Williamsburg on July 22
that would have enabled us to run the end-of-season tourney on one day has fallen through.  This means it will not be
possible to run a 21 game tourney on one day.

I need to discuss possible options with a few people from the Williamsburg Nazarene Church Sunday morning,
July 16, before announcing what we are going to do with the tourney.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

2006 Church Softball League Tourney Schedule

I learned at 11:30 last night, July 15, that we will not be able to use the girls softball diamond at the Williamsburg Lions Club park.  After checking with people at church, we are going to have to run the tourney as a single-elimination tourney on Saturday July 22, 2006, with games starting at 8 am.  Here’s the tourney schedule; each team's tourney seed is in parenthesis:

Game 1: 8 am: Sylvan Nook (3) vs New Life Nazarene (10)

Game 2: 9 am: Richmond First (6) vs Williamsburg Blue (7)

Game 3: 10 am: Centerville Christian (2) vs Christ Jesus Community (11)

Game 4: 11 am: Hagerstown (5) vs Galilean Baptist (8)

Game 5: 12 noon: Williamsburg Teen (4) vs United (9)

Game 6: 1 pm: Game 1 winner vs Game 2 winner

Game 7: 2 pm: Game 4 winner vs Game 5 winner

Game 8: 3 pm: Game 3 winner vs Game 6 winner

Game 9: 4:15 pm: New Life Holiness (1) vs Game 7 winner

Game 10: 5:30 pm: Game 8 winner vs Game 9 winner

Pre-game check-in is 15 minutes before game time and will include the prayer and the lineup exchange.  All games will start on time.
A team not ready to go at game time will forfeit.

The run rule is 10 runs after 4 innings or more for games 1 through 9.  However, for games 1 through 7, there is a one-hour time limit per game,
which takes priority over the innings and run rule.  For games 8 and 9, there is a 75 minute time limit per game, which takes priority over the innings
and run rule.

For game 10, the championship game, we will use the regular season run rule with no time limit; 15 runs after 4 innings and 10 runs after 5 or more.

Additional rules will be posted shortly.
