My friends on Prodigy knew me as "FastBuck" a name I acquired because of my love of fast cars and drag racing.
The Ford Taurus SHO (Super High Output) was a high performance version of the regular Taurus. Introduced in 1989, it

sported a Yamaha built 3.0L 24 valve DOHC V6 engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. The suspension was beefed up to give the car pretty good

handing for the time period. A few years later, Ford added an automatic transmission option. Horsepower was increased from

220 to 225 with that option. The engine managed to get all it's horsepower without a turbo or blower. It was a very advanced

engine design for the time period. In 1996, Ford changed the body style on the Taurus and the SHO version was equipped with a

32 valve DOHC V8 engine which Yamaha assembled. Unfortunately, you could only get an automatic transmission. The last SHO came off

the production line in 1999. There is a group of people who just love SHOs and they are very active and tight nit.
I have 6 Taurus SHOs. My first SHO was a red 89. It can do 15 flat in the quarter mile and got me to work and back everyday for years.
I also own other SHOs. Another 89, this one is titanium color, a titanium 92 5 speed and a emerald green 94.
The 94 has an automatic transmission whereas the 89s have 5 speed manual transmissions .
The 94 runs the quarter in the high 15's. With ABS and dual airbags, the 94 weighs about 350 lbs more than an 89.
My wife drove a 99 SHO in Toreador Red. Here is a picture of 4 of our SHOs. From left to right, 99, 94, 89 & 89.
Unhappily, the 99 Toreador Red SHO in the pictures was totaled. Wife was broadsided by a Lincoln Town Car.
She had some broken ribs and the car was totaled with only 42K miles.
Early in 2006 I was able to acquire a Black 98 SHO (cam failure 681) one of the imfamous "cam failures" the V8 SHOs are prone to.
I was able to use the engine and transmission from the wrecked 99 to put the 98 back on the road again.
If you have a V8 SHO I would advise you to seek out an expert and have the cam sprockets welded. It's a permanent fix.
