Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. DC Comics. 1995. Book review by Joel Ok. I went to see the movie because all of the hype and I loved it. I can't help it--I like comic-book movies. Well, this is a graphic novel, not the same thing. I wanted to see what the book was like. It was awesome. I read it in about a week trying to savor it and digest it as slowly as possible. It is violent and different; and the book is well done with well-developed characters and subplots in subplots. Everything linked to each other in ways that aren't given away right off the bat. A very good read. I can't believe I never heard of this. It was originally published in 1986. Where was I? Was I on the South Pole living with penguins and seals? Nope. I wasn't...or was I? I would highly recommend this graphic novel even to someone who considers the literary form a comic book. It is a gem. Joel. Visit Book Reader's Traverse Home Page for more selections.
