post office: A Novel Book review by Joel He published this book in 1971. This was before the term “going postal” was invented, but he gives plenty of reasons to go postal in this look at working in the post office. The dedication page says it is a work of fiction and is dedicated to no one. Basically, it is about his run as a postal worker who hated his supervisors
and worked as little as he could get away with, as well as the booze and
women in his life. He really did work in the post office and there are
pictures of actual reprimands he got. It is hard to see where fiction
and non-fiction separate. It may not be fiction at all. His writing is
so real, everything happening as it happens. It is a refreshing style.
