Mademoiselle
Boleyn. Robin Maxwell. NAL Trade. 2007. Book review by Tracey As with another recently reviewed historical novel, I really enjoyed this one because it helps the reader imagine what it was like to be Anne Boleyn the child. There is quite a bit written about Anne the adult, who supposedly schemed her way into married life with King Henry VIII. of England. Ann the child has remained a mystery. As one of my favorite “Henry” wives, I was glad to have her imagined through Ms. Maxwell’s words. I would like to believe Anne was an intelligent woman, but a product of her time in history. There have been works written before that mention her affection for a Henry Percy prior to Henry VIII.'s interest in her, but this book explores this theory a little deeper. That was also an added perk. Another topic of interest visited in this book was that Anne’s sister Mary was a mistress to the French king. I liked this different and fresh version of Anne Boleyn. I’ll read this one again. Tracey. Visit Book Reader's Traverse Home Page for more selections.
