Book review by Joel
This book is really crazy. Christopher likes to take certain fables out
of the Bible and write them loosely into his stories. This one is the
story of Moses. Although the beginning of this one starts with him crashing
a pink jet because he was with a hooker, and a vision of a cargo cult
god asks him if he wants to live or die. Tucker wants to live….
So he gets fired from his job and before he is lynched by the boss he
is given an opportunity to fly a plane for a missionary doctor and his
wife on the island of Alualu. He finds out that no one can get to the
island because it is inhabited by the Shark People and they are protected
by the missionaries. He gets the help of the Navigator, a cross dressing
prostitute from Manila, who immediately gets them lost in a storm. However,
they wash up on the shore of Alualu where they are tied up by one of the
natives who still likes to practice cannibalism. Did I mention the large
talking fruit bat that is Kimi’s companion. It helps them many times.
(Quite the plot device). Kimi is the navigator.
I don’t want to give everything away but it turns out the missionaries
are using the natives to their own end. And it is up to Tucker to save
the day but he is a bumbling idiot.
This book was great getaway reading that really puts you in a different
world. I recommend it, although not for children.
