The Goddess, the Grail and the Lodge . Alan Butler. O Books. 2004.
Book review by Tracey
This book was a fascinating read! I confess that there were so many details
in it that I cannot remember even half of the pertinent ones, but this
author was so caught up in his theory that he carried you right along
with him. Mr. Butler documents world history from ancient times to the
present day in respect to Goddess worship, and how it is still alive in
the world today. There are a lot of references to past prominent theories.
Mr. Butler shows us exactly how they tie in with his story. He also gives
the reader quite a bit of technical information, for instance, how it
is that all the megalithic monuments such as Stonehenge and Avebury are
built to the same scale, even though the people who built them could not
have known each other. Another example is the tracing of so-called “salt
lines”, which just happen to be where a lot of significant structures
are placed, even today. Mr. Butler also delves into the prominence of
the Knights Templar--how he feels that they and others within the Catholic
Church were and are really practicing Goddess worship. I found it all
very interesting, even when over my head. The author has some very valid
and well thought out points. Anyone wishing for more knowledge of the
history of religion, the goddess, or even just a good mystery will enjoy
this book.
