Book review by Joel
Ok, this book gets truly weird where Leto son of Paul has merged with
the sand trout and is slowly transforming into a worm--as in the great
worms of Dune--and because of this, he has been alive for about 3,500
years and is the absolute dictating emperor of the Universe. His powers
of prescience were even greater than Muad’dib’s and he transformed
himself to put humankind on the “Golden Path”. He saw that
if he didn’t sacrifice his own humanity and do this that all humans
were on a course of extinction.
This book was longer than the first three but it had more character development
and more psychological, religious, and societal messages built into the
story. I loved this series--it was hard to put any of these books down.
This one was no exception, as it continued to surprise with unexpected
plot twists and fascinating characters. The recurring character of Duncan
Idaho is still here as a ghola, or clone of the original taken from dead
cells and grown in an axlotl tank. Like I said; weird.
I highly recommend reading these. They are great works of fiction.
