Book review by Jane
This book comes from the editor-in-chief and the food and nutrition editor of Men’s Health magazine. The approach this book takes to healthy choices is good for women and children, too, however. You find yourself in different circumstances when trying to eat out or shop at the grocery store for food. This book is a guide to picking the correct foods in these different circumstances. Some of these choices you already make. Some are not so obvious. Like, would you pick a hot dog with relish, mustard and ketchup over a large soft pretzel at the ballpark? I wouldn’t have, but I would have preferred the hot dog. And do you try to impress your co-workers by ordering the Premium Grilled Chicken Club instead of a Quarter Pounder (without cheese) at McDonald’s? Well, you chose wrong in this instance. This book says, “eat this, not that” to the choices, and addresses why you should eat foods, by labeling the fat content, calories, and nutritional values. You also get some information about the restaurants you eat at, and which ones are best for your health. There are some real surprises. The book also takes apart menus to specialty restaurants and tells you about the various choices available. The grocery store selections are equally as surprising. The book is fully illustrated with great photos pretty enough to make you hungry.

I ordered this book from the library, and I loved the straightforward talk so much, I ordered a copy from Amazon. I use it as a reference, and I browse through the pages when I’m thinking about the food I eat. My granddaughter and I read the whole book together, but especially enjoyed the kids section. One of the things she wants to be is a chef when she grows up and nutrition is very important.

Jane.
