Carolina Isle. Jude Deveraux. Pocket. 2005.

Book review by Tracey
Jude Deveraux is one of my favorite mindless reads. Her stories always involve a lot of fast-paced action and, of course, romance. She isn’t always consistent about how well she writes, but that hardly seems to matter when one is reading solely for the purpose of forgetting the everyday world for a little while.

Carolina Isle is a 2006 offering revolving around first cousins who decide to switch places in order to be near the male who is associated with the Other cousin. It doesn’t work from the start, which really doesn’t matter in the story, as the men involved are aware of it the whole time and get the girl they set out to get right from the beginning.

Some readers might say that this story is a silly fairytale, but I would liken it more to watching television for book readers. How many television shows have you watched that are completely predictable from the start? Television watchers still watch these shows, and really enjoy them. Obviously, they have a place in the menu. Jude Deveraux is one of my predictable reads that I really enjoy, even if I know what the ending will be just as I begin the book!
