The Archer's Tale (The Grail Quest, Book 1). Bernard Cornwell. Harpertorch. HarperCollins Publishers. New York, New York. 2001.

Book Review by Tracey
Mr. Cornwell's story, The Archer's Tale (The Grail Quest, Book 1) is yet another layer added to the mystic legend of the Holy Grail. It is told through the fictional character, Thomas of Hookton, a common, down to earth fellow who somehow manages to arrive in some of the most famous locations of the age. As in his other novels, Mr. Cornwell has done a lot of historical research, and it shows in the guise of a very believable tale filled with action, emotion, and mystery. There are enough historical figures written in to give it a realistic feel, yet they are only a backdrop for the real drama. What will happen to young Thomas, and how will he be shaped by his early life? What kinds of extraordinary circumstances will he find himself participating in (or are they extraordinary for the time period?)

This story is part one of a trilogy. Every book is a worthy read. Mr. Cornwell has crafted each installment in such a way to ensure that the adventure lives on!

Tracey.
