| A
Thousand Splendid Suns Book review by Jane Most people know that this book is a fictional account of Afghanistan's recent political history. I knew this, and didn't read it until I had heard Arapahoe Library District's JoAnne Pulcino's book review. She had researched the author and I enjoyed learning about him. You would think by the emotional investment this writer must have experienced in writing this story, an Afghan woman had written the book, but instead a man, who JoAnne Pulcino describes in the Youtube.com review, wrote it. The story itself is so touching. If you make it through even the beginning of the story without your heartstrings being tugged, I would wonder about you. I thought I would have trouble relating to two women from Afghanistan. After I began the book, I quickly fell in love with Mariam, and later with Laila. If you haven't read this book yet, I recommend you read it. I know many people have picked it up and a lot has been said about it. I must say it is worthy of reading. I would say it is bound to be a classic. When you read the reviews on the back of covers and in famous magazines, it is often fluff meant for today, but this book deserves the recognition. Jane.
