I
used a floating blind on a lake in Montana to peek into the lives
of these avocets during their nesting season. The blind worked so
well that I was able to get within a few feet of the birds without
them knowing I was there. Thus I was able to witness their natural
behaviors at close range. Kalon Baughan joined me on this trip with
his floating blind, and we used walkie-talkies to communicate.
