At Matherly Cemetery Planning we also offer a product that is somewhat unique to that provided by most planners. Our experiences include conducting the historical research into abandoned family cemeteries and their preservation or relocation.
There are many residential and commercial developments that are finding abandoned cemeteries on-site. In some cases, these cemeteries may stand in the way of the development, in the mind of the developer.
We encourage the preservation of these cemeteries and conduct the historic research, probe for graves, and map the locations for preservationists. When, after all efforts have been exhausted, the developer decides to relocate the graves, Matherly Cemetery Planning prepares a report, legal notices, and contacts the Attorney Generals office of your state for permission to relocate the remains. While the process is going on we conduct a photographic history of the disinterment and reinterment of all graves to include photographing and documenting any headstones found. Once the relocation has been completed, we conclude our report and provide the client with copies for his/her use. We encourage our clients to submit a copy to the local and state historical society for use by future generations.
