joined the Army.

Charles William Lee,
oldest son of William Franklin Lee & Dana Frances (Hickman) Lee.
The next boy, in white shirt, was
James “Jim” Charles Corbin,
oldest of three sons of Beatrice August “Pedro” Corbin & Roxey Minnie (Hickman) Corbin.
The older man sitting in the center of front row was
Charles Rice,
brother of Ora Rice. Ora Rice was the first husband of Mary Ellen (Hacker) Rice Hickman.
The little girl in Charles Rice’s lap was
Clara Belle Keller,
whose married name later was Clara Belle (Keller) Wyrick.
The older man in dark jacket seated next was
Charles Ambrose Hickman, Jr.
(born 16 March 1877) son of Charles Ambrose Hickman Sr. & Roxey Emiline (Denton) Hickman.
The little boy in Charles Ambrose Hickman, Jr.’s lap was
Melville Edmund Rice,
second son of Jesse Edmund Rice & Alverta (Taunton) Rice.
The man sitting on the right with hands on knees was
Bloomer Enoch Lane
(born about 1876), husband of Charles’ sister, Minnie Ellen (Hickman) Lane.

Charles Ambrose Hickman, Jr. and Minnie Ellen (Hickman) Lane were two of the children of Charles Ambrose Hickman, Sr. (born 06 August 1842 in Orange County, Indiana) and Roxey Emiline (Denton) Hickman (born 16 December 1848 in Crawford County, Indiana). Charles Sr. & Roxey had 11 children, including George Hickman (died in infancy), Issac “Ike” L. Hickman, Mary Ida (Hickman) Dunn Sweeny Newlin, John Wesley Hickman, Josiah A. Hickman, Charles Ambrose Hickman Jr., Minnie Ellen (Hickman) Lane, Rose E. (Hickman) Stewart, Norman Frank Hickman, Bill Hickman, & Elmer Ellsworth Hickman (named for his 7th cousin, Col. Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth, who was a close friend of President Abraham Lincoln and the first Union casualty in the U. S. Civil War).
Charles Ambrose Hickman and Minnie Ellen (Hickman) Lane were grandchildren of Isaac Hickman (born 1821 in Orange County, North Carolina) & Rebecca Collins (Henderson) Hickman (born 1822 in Kentucky), and of Allen Denton (born 16 July 1804 in Tennessee) & Clara “Clary” (Foster) Denton (born 1823).
Charles Ambrose Hickman, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Fears) Hickman had 6 surviving children, including: Dana Frances (Hickman) Lee, Jesse Charles Hickman, Roxey Minnie (Hickman) Corbin, Mable Marie (Hickman) Reynolds, Harold Ellsworth Hickman, and Rhea Dawn (Hickman) Brinson. The U. S. Census indicates another child between Mable & Harold, who must have died young.

Bloomer Enoch Lane (born about 1876 in Southeast Township,
Orange County, Indiana) & Minnie Ellen (Hickman) Lane
(born 22 September 1879 in Orange County, Indiana) had 12 children,
including Ora or Orrie Lane & Lori or Lorie Lane (twin girls who died during early childhood), Hazel M. (Lane) Jones, Fern (Lane) Lane, William Glen Lane, Olive Faithe (Lane) Dailey Walls, Viola Mildred (Lane) Foster, Charles Kenneth Lane, Mary Lucille (Lane) Barnett, Jesse (Lane) Fisher, Ruth (Lane) Sturgeon Barrett, and Robert M. Lane (died in Europe where he was serving during World War II).

23 grandchildren, including Dorothy Jean (Jones) Cunningham, Frederick L. Jones, Marjorie (Lane) Dailey, Harold “Bud” Lane, Banks “Bud” G. Lane, Donald V. Mary Ellen (Hacker) Rice Hickman (born 13 June 1881) was a daughter of William Presley “Doc” Hacker (born 1858) and Catherine (Polley) Hacker (born about 1857). Mary Ellen (Hacker) Rice Hickman was a granddaughter of Andrew J. Hacker (born 15 December 1836) & Sarah Ann (Gwaltney) Hacker, and of Joseph L. Polley (born 23 February 1832 near Bloomington, in Monroe County, Indiana) & Margaret (Jackson) Polley (born about 1837 in Indiana).
Ora R. Rice (born 19 March 1875) and Mary Ellen (Hacker) Rice Hickman had 5 children including Herbert Rawleigh Rice, John William Rice, Jesse Edmund Rice, Ada Catherine (Rice) Wilson, and Robert Estelle Rice. They also had a child born between between John and Jesse, in 1906, who died in infancy.
Ora R. Rice and Mary Ellen (Hacker) Rice Hickman had at least 14 grandchildren, including Richard Lee Rice, Morris H. Rice, Betty Lou (Rice) Dinius, John William Rice Jr., Robert Elza Rice, William “Billy” Raymond Rice, Henry Roscoe Rice, Melville Edmund Rice, Mary Madonna (Rice) Newlin, Darlena Kay (Wilson) McGee Kinder Strahm, Melville Duane Wilson, Brenda Elaine (Wilson) Sparks Hancock, and Jackie Lee Rice.
Ora R. Rice was the son of John Thomas Rice (born 08 December 1851) & Belaria Eldine (Reeves) Rice (born 18 September 1851).
