Some Cemetery Information

Monroe County, Indiana

There are many cemeteries in Monroe County, Indiana. I have focused on the larger ones, and those which have specifically been used by our families.

However, a complete listing of Monroe County cemeteries is available online at the Monroe County Historical Society Web site. (Link provided below.)

  • Clear Creek Cemetery

    Clear Creek, Indiana 47426

This cemetery is located in southern Monroe County, in Perry Township, south of Bloomington, in the village of Clear Creek, Indiana. It is at the intersection of South Rogers Street and Church Lane, beside Clear Creek Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). South Rogers Street continues all the way from Bloomington to Clear Creek, so this cemetery is easy to find.

This is a beautiful old cemetery, but it is large and still in use. There are some beautiful carved limestone monuments here.

Our family names found in this cemetery include Brinson, Hickman, Lee, Pavey, Reynolds, and Schooley. Specifically,

    • my paternal grandparents, Charles Ambrose Hickman, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Fears) Hickman are buried here.

    • My paternal Uncle, Jesse Charles Hickman and his third wife, Frances (Moore) Hickman are buried here.

    • My maternal Aunt, Dana Frances (Hickman) Lee and William Lee are buried here.

    • My maternal Aunt, Mable Marie (Hickman) Reynolds and Ora Reynolds, are buried here.

    • My niece's husband's father, Jack Lee Schooley, and the Schooleys' relatives in the Pavey and Douthitt families are buried here.

    • My father, Harold Ellsworth Hickman, my Aunt, Rhea Dawn (Hickman) Brinson and Rollie Marvin Brinson, and my first cousin, Maribeth (no middle name) Brinson all have placed monuments here for their future burial.

    • Indeed, this is where I will be someday.
