Higi Kime

Higi Kime is similar to Arm Down. A distinction is made here because although an armbar is easy to apply from Arm Down, Arm Down is an excellent intermediary position that allows almost any Aiki throw. Higi Kime is a finish position. One could then go to another throw but Higi Kime is not designed for that.

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start from Arm Down.
  2. Fig. 2 shows the grip changed from Arm Down to Higi Kime. Arm Down and Higi Kime are very similar. In Higi Kime the hands are up near the ear. Some people do not take a Nikkyo grip but here the grip was changed to Nikkyo. The difference between Higi Kime and Nikkyo is that Uke's hand is not in the indentation formed by Nage's shoulder and Uke's arm is usually straight and not bent as in Nikkyo.
  3. Fig. 3 shows Uke on the floor after Nage has twisted counterclockwise as seen from above and pushed down on Uke with Nage's weight.
