Aikido practice has basically two types of practice. Basic practice is where one person does a formal attack and the other person does a formal defense. This is Kata practice. Advanced practice is where one person is attacked by several people at the same time. Usually they are free to use any attack they care to use. Being good at self-defense with many attackers is the martial goal of Aikido practice.
