A treasure of historical photos. Live in South Dakota now but spent many nights at most tracks mentioned & photographed. Armscamp is but a memory now with very little remaining but my dad and I rarely missed a Friday night in Alexandria. We also were Winchester, Dayton and Salem 'big car' followers and even used to peddle my bicycle around the old Muncie Velodrome after it ceased operation in 1948.

Hello.
I stumbled on this site and glad I did. You have a picture of my great uncle Buck Teal. He raced for Tom Cherry until he went into WWII. He was killed in action in France in 1945.

My father told me how he loved racing. Thank you for a great site and a wonderful picture.

THANK YOU ! I was raised in the bleachers and pits of Mt. Lawn and Sun Valley [ Anderson] Speedways. My father , Hollis Thompson was the owner/buildrer of the # 84 chevys driven by Dave Weir , L.J. Lines , Dick Hinshaw and a few others. If any one has old photos or video of these cars I would love to see/buy them. Dave also drove the # 88 and #84 old ford roadsters for Dad in the late 50's early 60's.The photos brought back a lot of memories.

Thanks again

Nice site!! Know a few of the people pictured. Got my start in 1951 with the Ed Beste roadster at the Motor City Speedway in Detroit. I eventually got into Dirt Champ Cars. Had a Grant King car for 20 years. Sold it to Don Smith in Terre Haute a few months ago. Had to sell it as i have cancer. Don Anderson knows my car well.

I started racing roadsters in 1951. We raced mostly in oregon and washington. Raced them for about 5 years, then switched to big cars. A lot of good memories and some not so good.

Bob James was my hero as a kid. He had already moved to stock cars, but the pictures he had of his roadster days were so cool. Really brave racers, those roadster guys. Thanks for keeping the memories alive.
