Michael Rux - Sophomore Coach

Michael Rux is entering his 18th year as the head sophomore
coach for Galesburg High School. His teams have compiled a 283-82 (.775) record
while claiming six Western Big 6 Championships (1992-93, 1993-94, 1996-97,
2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03). Rux's 2002-03 team posted a 23-0 season marking
it as the only team at GHS to finish the season without a loss in at least
23 tries. The 2004-05 team matched the 23 win plateau to go along with 2 losses
and an 8-2 conference mark. Last year's team finished 15-10 on the season
and 4-6 in the conference in 4th place.
Coach Rux was born in Evanston, Illinois, raised in Kewanee, Illinois, and
is the son of Gerard and Lucretia Rux who own and operate Rux Funeral Home
in Kewanee, IL. He has three brothers and four sisters. Coach Rux is a 1984
graduate of Kewanee High School and was a starting defensive back in football
for the Boilers earning all-conference honors his senior year. They won the
NCIC conference his junior and senior years while advancing to the IHSA state
quarter-finals in Class 3A his junior year and making the playoffs again in
Class 4A his senior year.
Rux continued his education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.
While at NIU, Rux was an aide to Jim Rosborough and the men's basketball team
from 1986-89. He earned a degree in Elementary Education in 1989 from Northern
Illinois. He has taught fifth grade at Silas Willard Elementary School for
the past 18 years. Rux received a masters degree in Educational Administration
from Western Illinois University in 1995.
His main duties include individual player development, offensive and defensive
defense techniques, game preparation, scouting, and media relations. His expertise
and familiarity of the Galesburg system is one of the keys and driving forces
that has established the Galesburg program as one of the finest in the state,
both on and off the court. Since joining the staff in 1990, Galesburg gone
481-88 and has won 85% of its games. 18 of his former player have gone on
