Season Recap -- 1996-1997
The Streaks finished 33-2 and placed fourth in the State of Illinois.
Going undefeated would seem unlikely after graduating three starters from Galesburg's third-place team of last season. But with one of those returning starters being Molly Watson, the Silver Streaks were in good hands this season and were a solid contender for the title.
Point guard Molly Watson, bound for DePaul, has directed an almost unstoppable fast break. Watson averaged 19.4 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.7 steals a contest. Galesburg, under the direction of 19-year coach Evan Massey, has won 20 or more games the past 10 seasons.
Forward Jessica Thompson was the other returning starter. Angie Galyean, Melanie Pendergrass, Sarah Larson, and Meg Sherwood all were key components to the Streaks' team. Freshman forward Megan Pacheco was the team's most physical player.
Galesburg won games by an average score of 71-42.
