2007-2008 Inside Scoop
January 13, 2008
Taylor Young broke the 1,000 point mark in last night's game vs. Dunlap. Young
led the team with 20 points and now sits at 1,003 total career points. She is
the 12th Silver Streaks girls player to achieve the milestone and sits in 12th
place in all-time career scoring. Congratulations Taylor.
January 9, 2008
Taylor Young was honored last night before the Quincy game. Young has been named
a nominee for the McDonald’s All-American team. Young has been recognized
as one of the top players in the nation. The senior guard ranks among the top
1,000 nominees competing to fill one of 24 positions for an East vs. West showdown
March 26 in Milwaukee.
At last night's senior night, eight members of the Streaks team were recognized at the Senior Night game.
Steve Godsil has been responsible for our computer stat program for the last three years. He plans to attend Monmouth College and major in Business.
Chris Greene has been a statistician for the girls basketball team each of the last two years. He plans to be in the Marines after graduation.
Prov Boydstun has been varstiy manager for the last four years. She plans to attend Purdue University and major in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Stef Baker has been a three year letterwinner in basketball and is captain of this year's team. She plans to attend Monmouth College and major in pre-med.
Keli Jo Hinkle has been on the varsity basketball team the last three years. She plans to attend college and major in nursing or physical therapy.
Rachel Pendry has started on the varsity basketball team all four years. She earned the Crisman Award last year for excellence in basketball as well as All-Conference and All-State recognition. For her career, she ranks #3 in career rebounds. She plans to attend college and become a pharmacist.
Kelly Ricketts She has been a regular on the varsity for all four years and is captain of this year's team. For her career at GHS, she ranks #6 in rebounds and #15 in points. She plans to attend college but is undecided at this time.
Taylor Young is starting in her 129th straight varsity game on Senior Night. Last year she earned the Crisman Award for excellence in basketball, as well as All-Conference and All-State recognition. For her career at GHS, she ranks #1 in steals, #4 in assists, #10 in rebounds, and #12 in points. She plans to attend college and mojor in business.

Congratulations to senior Taylor Young!
She became the all-time steals leader in GHS history passing Ann Henderson,
Tiffany Sibley, and Sarah Larson by lifting her 319th steal of her career Thursday
night at East Moline. Young stole the ball on two consecutive possessions with
4:30 left in the second quarter to pass Henderson and put her in a tie with
Sibley and Larson. She picked up number 319 at the 2:45 mark to seal her place
in Silver Streak history. Young will add to her steals lead with 7 regular season
games remaining.

1, 2007 game vs. the Streaks. The game will be made up on Saturday, January
19, 2008.

Classic schedule has been changed to accomidate Metamora's football team
playing in the state championship game. Please see the schedule for details.

The 2007-08
schedule has been released. New additions to the non-conference schedule
include Bloomington (HS) (ranked as high as #15 AA last year). They replace
Sterling on the schedule. The remaining five non-conference games, Burbank (Queen
of Peace), Canton, Park Ridge (Maine South)--(ranked #11 in final AA poll),
Winnetka (New Trier)--(ranked #14 in final AA poll), and Morton (ranked #6 in
final AA poll) remain on the schedule.
Galesburg will travel to Burbank (Queen of Peace)--Dec. 8, Canton--Dec. 20, and Winnetka (New Trier)--Feb. 2, and will host Morton--Dec. 1, Park Ridge (Maine South)--Dec. 15, and Bloomington (HS)--Jan. 26.
The Streaks will open the conference schedule traveling to Rock Island to take on Rock Island (HS) on Tuesday, November 20. The game is the only Western Big 6 game played on a Tuesday night. All other conference games will be on Thursday nights. Game time is 6:00 pm for the preliminary game and 7:30 for the varsity match up.
Galesburg went 10-0 in conference play last year and have won 12 of the last 18 conference titles.
Tournament schedules for the 07-08 season have also been released. The 2007 Streaks Classic has the same field from a year ago. Urbana, Sherrard, Carthage (Illini West), Metamora, Peoria (Richwoods), Rockford (Jefferson), and Rock Island (Alleman)--(ranked #13 in final AA poll) all return to the 2007 tournament. Galesburg will look to defend its title from a year ago. Galesburg will open its season Friday, November 16, vs. Urbana at 8:30 pm. All varsity games will be played in Galesburg's John Thiel Gym and the tournament will continue with a 4-game sophomore tournament held in Grace Wicall Gym. Galesburg sophomores will tip the season off on Friday, November 16, vs Rockford (Jefferson) at 5:30 PM in Wicall Gym. Knoxville will enter a fresh-soph team replacing Urbana.
The 2007 State Farm Holiday Classic teams have not been released. The largest coed holiday high school basketball tournament in the nation tips off its 29 th annual event on Dec. 26-29, and marks the ninth consecutive year with State Farm Insurance ® as the title sponsor. The 2008 Martin Luther King Tournament has some changes taking place this year. Gone from this year's tournament are Champaign (Central) and Champaign (Centennial). The only new team this year is Kankakee. Morrison, Macomb, Monmouth (Monmouth-Roseville), Peoria (Notre Dame), and Rock Island (Alleman)--(ranked #13 in final AA poll) will all return to this year's tournament. Each team will continue to play 5 games. Games will be held a a variety of sites. On January 5, all games will be played at Knox College's Memorial Gym and Fieldhouse. On January 12, all games will be held at Galesburg High School, and games on January 14 + 21, are being held in Monmouth, Peoria, and Macomb.
