Conclusion
So, we are, already, the light of the entire world and don't need to look to the Masonic Lodge or any man for light. If the Master of the Lodge is not a Christian, he is in darkness, no matter what his position in the lodge. To look to him as a "master" is to be misled. He, himself, needs to come to the true light. Also, the Bible teaches that, no matter how long you've been saved or how much you've perfected yourself, you will go to heaven if you accept Jesus Christ. A new Christian will go to heaven as well as an old Christian. We should look to the Bible and to God to live moral lives, not to the Lodge.
5.) The Masonic Lodge is shrouded in secrecy and it's members consider themselves to be a brotherhood of enlightened men. I would stay away from anything that is secretive or kept mysterious, from taking of secret oaths, blood oaths, or doing anything which I had to swear not to reveal to anyone on the "outside". It is like a mysterious, secret, and dark brotherhood. Many of the cults take similar secret oaths which cannot be shared with "heathen" ears. The notion is that "only we understand". Statements such as, "the Hoodwink...is a symbol of secrecy, darkness, and silence. It is a mystical darkness in which the mysteries of our art should be preserved from the unhallowed gaze of the profane." (Q&A, page 16), "every brother is duly taught secrecy" (Q&A, page 8), "Esoteric, the unwritten ritualistic work designed for and understood by the specially initiated alone. Exoteric, that part suitable for the uninitiated public." (Q&A, page 12), "Freemasonry is a complete system of symbolic teaching, and can be known, understood, and appreciated only by those who study its symbolism and make themselves acquainted with its occult meaning." (Q&A, page 27)
But what does the Bible say?
"have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light." (Ephesians 5:11-13)
"he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest" (John 3:21)
"nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither anything hid, that shall not be known and come abroad." (Luke 8:17)
"God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ" (Romans 2:16)
"there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore, whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops." (Luke 12:2-3)
"Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world...and in secret have I said nothing. (John 18:20)
6.) There are a number of other reasons that I would stay away from Freemasonry. They write that "the greatest privilege is that of being recognized before men as a worthy member of the noblest organization ever perfected by man" (Address to Candidate on Receiving the Third Degree). That is quite a statement. The Bible teaches that if you exalt yourself, you will be humbled (Matt. 23:12). Of course, the greatest privilege is to be called a child of God, which we are not worthy of, in ourselves.
They also seem to teach that you can get God's attention by calling upon Him by His true name (Q&A, page 16 - Ineffable Name). The Bible, though, teaches that no man can come to the Father but by Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
There are a few other reasons, but my point is made. This was not intended to offend anyone, but I figured that, if I was going to take a position on Freemasonry, I needed to spend some time getting to know it. In the end, it is the individual's choice. God will judge as to whether or not it was a wise one.
