Who's That Knocking at My Door?  by Dan & Agusta Harting

If you were one of the three little pigs, the answer would be: "the big bad wolf".  If you are a Christian, the answer might very well be: "THE BIG BAD WOLF".  Only this wolf would be in sheep's clothing (Matt 7:15) and introduce himself/herself as "Jehovah's Christian Witnesses".  They, collectively, spent over one billion hours going door to door last year, so it wouldn't be surprising if you did receive a knock on your door.

So, what are you going to do when the knock comes next time?   Are you going to bar the door?  Are you going to hide and not answer the door? Are you going to slam the door in their face?  Are you going to let them teach you and become a Witness yourself?  If you answered yes to any of the above, you flunked the test!  So what's the correct answer?  First you pray, for them and for yourself.  After you pray, put on the full armor of God, take up the sword of  the Spirit, the Bible, and open the door with a smile on your face.  Be polite, listen to them, and then take control of the conversation.  Do not let them teach you.  Pick one subject at a time and stay on it; don't let them scripture jump.

Here are a couple of their favorite doctrines.  Room does not allow me to write out every Bible verse, so I am going to give you chapter and verse and depend on your willingness to look them up.  It may take a few minutes, but you may save a soul.

The Watchtower teaches:  The cross is a pagan symbol and was not the instrument of death used by the Romans to kill Jesus.  Jesus died on a torture stake (or pole).  The cross does not picture the death or the resurrection of Jesus.  It is not the Christian symbol nor is it a symbol of hope.  The Bible teaches:  There is no question that Jesus died on a cross and not a torture stake.  A torture stake required one nail in the hands, nailed over the head, but the Bible says there were two nails used in the hands (John 20:25) and his hands were outstretched, and not over his head during his death (John 21:18,19).  The cross is foolishness to unbelievers (1 Cor. 1:18,23, 2:2).  There will be enemies of the cross (Phil. 3:18,19).  The cross, though demeaned by men, will bring glory (Gal. 6:14).  Believers are to pick up their cross and follow Jesus (Matt. 16:24)

The Watchtower teaches:  Jesus is not God and the Trinity is a pagan blasphemy.  Jesus is not equal to God the Father but is a lesser God or "mighty god" as opposed to the Father who is "almighty God".  Jesus was really Michael, the archangel, who was God's first creation.  Michael's "life force" was then transferred by the holy spirit to Mary's womb, and Jesus was born in due time.  While on Earth, he was a perfect, sinless man; nothing more, nothing less.  His ransom paid for Adam's sin only, which gives humans the opportunity to earn their salvation by believing  in God and doing good works in the Watchtower.  After the Crucifixion, God recreated Jesus in heaven as Michael the archangel again.  They believe that it was a spiritual and not a physical recreation, and the man Christ Jesus is dead forever.  Originally, the Watchtower taught that Michael the archangel (Jesus) returned invisibly in 1874, but now they believe that He returned invisibly in 1914 to appoint them as his only true organization and to reestablish his kingdom.  The Bible teaches: There is only one God (Deut 6:4, 32:39, Isa 43:10, 44:6).  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each called God (Eph 4:6, John 1:1, 6:27, Heb 1:8, Titus 2:13, 1 John 5:20).  Each is described as Creator (Isa 44:24, John 1:1-3, Job 33:4, 26:13).  Each is described as eternal (Ps 93:2, Micah 5:2, Heb 1:8, 9:14).  Each is described as omnipresent (Jer 23:24, Matt 28:20, Ps 139:7-10).  Each is described as omniscient (Jer 17:10,  1 Cor 2:10-12).  Each is described as omnipotent (Matt 19:26, Heb 1:3, Rom 15:19).

Remember, Jesus died for the cultist, too.  We send missionaries all over the world and yet we have a full mission field right on our doorstep.  But be warned, know your scriptures and how to defend what you believe.  If you need more information, just drop us a note or call us.  We'll be glad to send you information.
