Christian resources on science and faith often waste far too much rhetoric espousing the ignorance of science and the blindness of scientists, or they degrade into a battle between opposing Christian views regarding the age of the universe. Refreshingly, this book does neither. Lee Strobel is no stranger to apologetics. His earlier works include the excellent and highly recommended "The Case for Christ" and "The Case for Faith".
In "The Case for a Creator", the author uses the familiar format established in his earlier books. He begins by painting a picture of evolution (including Darwin's tree of life) which appears to be a very bleak and convincing argument against God. He then conducts interviews with experts in various scientific fields who explain that much of what we were taught in our youth has been proven wrong. The experts do not explain away the evidence of modern science; rather they use the information to show how it is best understood as pointing towards the Creator.
We are taken briefly through the science of the creation and shown how each step reveals intelligent design. Intelligent design implies a designer whose attributes precisely match the God of the Bible. Considered along with the historical evidence of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus presented in "The Case for Christ", we have a very powerful argument for our faith.
Is this argument strong enough to convince an atheist that God exists? The scientists interviewed explain how an honest consideration of the evidence led them personally to saving faith. With God, all things are possible. A well placed faith argument can serve as a wedge to crack open a hardened heart where seeds of faith can take root.
This book covers a lot of information and there are additional resources listed at the end of each chapter for those who wish to dig deeper. The Case for a Creator is highly recommended for its apologetic value and would be especially helpful for those with intellectual objections to Christianity.
