Hours: 9:00AM to 4:00PM Tuesday Through Sunday. Closed Monday. Hours vary, you may wish to call.

Awards: This is a credit only event. Credit is $3.00. Those not wanting to walk for credit may walk for free. No refunds given.

This walk qualifies for Railroad Heritage (in park) or College Campus (out of park).

Registration: This is a self-registration event. Go in the Nature Preserve and ask for the Volksmarch (walk) box. Follow the instructions in the box to register for and participate in this event. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. You must fill out a start card, and on completion of the walk place it and money if applicable in the SASE and mail. In registering for this event you are expected to observe the rules of the nature preserve.

Trail Description: This event has an alternate trail for muddy days and inclement weather. The nature center trail is on park paths and board walks, all in a forest setting. Caution: the board walks become slick in rainy weather. This is an old growth forest of exceptionally high quality virgin bottomland hardwood. You will walk along the towpath of the Wabash and Erie canal and two railroad beds now abandoned. The park has over 300 species of wild flowers, 150 species of birds, and numerous mammals, including deer and otter. This is an Indiana Department of Natural Resources property, please follow the park rules. There is no fee to enter the nature center, however donations are accepted. The hours for the start point are Tuesday -Sunday 9 to 4; Closed on Monday and some holidays Call 812- 479-0771.

Alternate Trail: University of Evansville College Campus Walk. This trail, rated 1, is on city streets and meanders in and out of the campus of the U of E and the neighborhoods nearby. Established in 1854, the University is a fully accredited, private liberal arts, and sciences based institution, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. This walk is rated 1.

Directions: Nature Center 5501 N. Boeke Rd 812-479-0771Coming from the North or South on US 41 take the Lloyd Expressway (SR 66) east. Follow the Expressway to the Boeke Rd exit. Go north on Boeke about two blocks to the park entrance on right. The Nature Preserve is in the back of the park. There is parking at the Nature Preserve. The walk box is located at the back left on the main counter, in the nature center building.

There is no fee to enter the Nature Center, however donations are accepted. Thank you.
