Welcome

The River City Ramblers welcome you to Princeton, Indiana's Golden Heritage Days. Enjoy food and fun on the courthouse square. The city was incorporated in 1844 and is the county seat of Gibson County. The city of Princeton has a population of over 8,000 and the county has a population of over 32,000. The court house was built in 1884 and is the the third courthouse to serve the county. It  is listed on the national register of historic places and was used as a model for Department 56 Snow Village Courthouse.

Railroad History: On January 2, 1894 the Evansville and Illinois Railroad was chartered to build and operate a railroad from Evansville to Princeton, to connect with the Ohio Mississippi Railroad near Olney, Illinois. The E&I Railroad reached Princeton in 1852. The depot was built in 1875, by the Evansville& Crawford Railroad. In 1986 the Princeton Railroad Station Inc. was incorporated. By June of 1986 they had negotiated an agreement with Seaboard System Railroad to acquire the depot building. A public ceremony was held on November 2, 1986 to celebrate the acquisition and further restoration of the depot. In 1988 the Norfolk Southern Railroad donated a retired caboose to the project. Thousands of man hours have been donated to this restoration project. The depot is now the home of the visitors Bureau.

Start Time: Any time between 8:00AM to 12:00PM noon local time.

Finish Time: You must complete the course by 3:00PM local time.

Weather: This event will be held rain or shine. Please dress appropriately

Location: Start finish is located at the Princeton Train Depot corner of 3rd and Broadway St., Princeton Indiana..

Registration & Start Cards: All participants, including infants and children must check in at the registration table and receive a start card. Your start card will be signed before the walk and returned to the finish table upon completion of the walk. This procedure allows us to keep track of all participants.

Event Awards: The award is a 2 1/4 inch button with a picture of a historic Princeton Library

Qualifies for AVA Special Programs: Railroad Heritage Event - Cemetery Stroll Event -  Walking Courthouses in the USA - American Authors Literary Landmarks

Fees: Everyone is welcome to participate in this event for free, however, if you desire the award and credit the fee is $4.00.  The fee for IVV credit only is $3.00. You may walk free if no award or IVV credit is desired. There will be no refunds.

Refreshments: Water and restrooms will be available at the start/finish point and at the checkpoints. You may wish to carry water with you.
Trail Description:
The trail will pass through the historic downtown district and along flat and slightly hilly streets passing through residential areas. Most streets do not have sidewalks. Rated 1+ on scale of 1 to 5 with 5 as most difficult. This will be a new walk route this yaer.

Parking: Free parking is available in the city lot.  Two blocks East of the depot on Broadway.

Pets: Pets must be on leash and may not be permitted in buildings.

Sponsors: THE RIVER CITY RAMBLERS Volkssport club is located in Evansville, IN. It is a volunteer non-profit organization. It is a member of the Indiana Volkssport Association and the American Volkssport Association.

Directions: Princeton is located in Gibson County Indiana, approximately 25 miles north of Evansville. If traveling west or east on Interstate 64, exit at the Evansville/Princeton /US41 Exit NORTH.. Continue north on US41 to State Route 64 east to the historic district .on Broadway St. (S.R.64). Traveling north or south take US 41 to Princeton exit State Route 64 east to the historic district .on Broadway St. (S.R.64).
